WRITER - novelist: "I malnati" (1960)

GIORGIO QUINTINI - NOVELIST
In June 1960, in Florence, Giorgio Quintini published what was, for the time, a scandalous novel. The cover and the title give a clear idea of the content: love and sentimental triangles in a roman à clef with many recognizable portraits from contemporary Florentine, Umbrian and Roman life. It now fetches high prices on the antiquarian book market.

The cover shows the author with his back to the camera, as he writes on the endpaper of this edition.

The following typescript is a third of the first page of four pages which Giorgio wrote at my request to identify the characters in his novel. Given that some of them may be alive and that the author does not mince his words, I cannot show more than the opening page here. Giampaolo Mariotti (p.2) will appear again in a post on some of Giorgio's more colourful friends.

The book was published in Florence and was presented to the public at the Galleria Internazionale in Via Tornabuoni. Here is Giorgio having signed a copy for donna Alessandra Bartolomei Corsi Honorati.

In March 2007 Giovanbattista Brambilla, who interviewed Giorgio by telephone, published an article about the novel in "PRIDE" magazine and with his permission I have tried to scan it here; it is unavailable online.
